To start with I think we need a little bit of information about PDM and what this new blog is all about.
To find out about PDM you can visit our website at www.pdmmusic.com but, basically we’re a Not For Profit live music promoter in Luton, Bedfordshire with a sideline in helping to develope new bands and musicians from the local area. We’ve been running now for five years and put on two gigs a month at a local venue and occasionally gigs in other places.
The reason for this blog is that part of what we want to do is help people to promote gigs and support new bands and we realised that there’s a lot of knowledge that we have that isnt’ shared anywhere. This is the place that we’ll use to share.
We’re not perfect, we don’t have all the answers and we still make mistakes but that’s all part of the learning and we want to share that too. We know of promoters who, no matter how badly a gig went, will say on Facebook or their website that it was a great success and that they’re the best thing since sliced bread. I know why they do that, they need to build confidence in what they do so that they can make money by getting bigger bands down the line. We don’t have to work like that so we’ll be saying when things have gone badly so that you can learn, and hope that our honesty helps to build a positive feeling about what we’re trying to do with bands, potential audiences and other promoters.
We won’t be commenting on other promoters specifically, that wouldn’t be fair, but if we can learn from something they’re doing, right or wrong, then we’ll use examples. We also won’t be reviewing bands. There are probably lots of other blogs out there that do that and it’s not what we’re about. That said if a band really excites us we may well mention them, but that won’t happen after every gig.
So. that’s what this is about and we’ll update it irregularly via web and mobile phones when there’s something to say. that something may be long or short but we’ll say it anyway.
Feel free to leave constructive comments and advice as that way we increase the sharing and that can only be a good thing.
